Position Summary
The Receiving Clerk / Forklift Operator is responsible for receiving, inspecting, documenting, and staging all incoming materials for our cabinet manufacturing operation, including sheet goods (plywood, MDF, particleboard, melamine), hardwood lumber, hardware, laminates, edge banding, finishes, and shop supplies. This role ensures accurate inventory records, safe material handling, and timely delivery of materials to production areas to keep manufacturing on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a sit-down and/or stand-up forklift to unload inbound trucks, including flatbeds and enclosed trailers carrying sheet goods, lumber units, and palletized freight
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing slips; verify quantities, part numbers, and product condition
- Identify and document damaged, defective, or short shipments; photograph damage and initiate claims or discrepancy reports with the Purchasing department
- Accurately enter receipts into the inventory/ERP system [insert system name, e.g., 2020 Insight, Cabinet Vision, MRP/ERP] in a timely manner
- Label, tag, and stage materials in designated storage locations, maintaining organization of sheet good racks, lumber storage, and hardware shelving
- Deliver materials to production departments (panel processing/CNC, assembly, finishing) as scheduled or requested
- Rotate stock (FIFO) and assist with cycle counts and physical inventories
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized receiving dock and warehouse area in compliance with 5S and company housekeeping standards
- Perform daily forklift inspections and report maintenance issues promptly
- Break down packaging and manage cardboard, banding, and pallet recycling/disposal
- Communicate with carriers, drivers, and vendors professionally during deliveries
- Assist shipping department and general warehouse duties as needed
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1–2 years of receiving, warehouse, or material handling experience
- Forklift experience required; current forklift certification preferred (or ability to obtain certification upon hire)
- Experience handling large sheet goods (4x8, 4x10, 5x12 panels) and lumber preferred
- Basic computer skills; ability to learn inventory/ERP software
- Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, packing slips, and part numbers
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
- Ability to work independently and manage time in a fast-paced production environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in cabinet, millwork, furniture, or wood products manufacturing
- Familiarity with materials such as plywood grades, MDF, melamine, laminates, and cabinet hardware
- Experience with clamp attachments, side-shifters, or panel-handling equipment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally with assistance
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing on/off forklift throughout shift
- Work performed in a manufacturing/warehouse environment with exposure to wood dust, noise, and varying temperatures at dock doors
Required PPE: safety glasses, hearing protection, steel/composite-toe footwear (provided or reimbursed per company policy
